Evening all. Saturday’s without Arsenal are a weird thing aren’t they? That’s not the first time I’ve said that and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
This is going to be a quick one as there’s little of note around.
Yes I’m serious.
Tomorrow’s early afternoon match sees a buoyant Newcastle arrive at the Emirates on the back of spanking their hated rivals Sunderland 5-1. If confidence was an issue after the Carling Cup match, that issue has been resolved.
They are a big, physical team and it will provide a very stern test to our not-so-solid defence.
As I discussed yesterday we have a number of players returning from ‘injury’ and will probably see Kos come back into the side after being rested mid-week. When, o when, will be able to play a settled back four?
So, how will we line up? This is how I see it:
Sagna Squillaci Koscielny Clichy
That will leave us with a bench containing Theo, Bendtner, Rosicky, Denilson, Chesney, Djourou and Vela.
Not too shabby at all that is it?
In other news the club has revealed that they are close to agreeing new deals with Clichy and Nasri who have both entered the final two years of their current contracts. Clichy has been much maligned this season, and even I can’t argue that he is prone to the odd ‘whoopsie’ but on the whole he is a great left-back who could maybe do with a bit more of a hand at times. Yes, yes, I know that had nothing to do with the error on Wednesday. Nasri, on the other hand, is moving in the other direction, I never really understood why some people didn’t rate Sami and hopefully he has turned any doubters in to believers with his sublime performances this season so far.
I, for one, will be glad when they both re-sign. Settled and happy team people, that is the key.
That’s it, what else is there to say? We know three points tomorrow is imperative, we know Newcastle will be tougher opposition than West Ham and we know we have a tendency of thinking we can just turn up for games, especially at home.
Make no mistake, anything less that 100% and we’re in shit, luckily, I reckon after the mid-week result, 100% is exactly what we’ll get.
