Arsenal have announced that Anouk Hoogendijk has left the club to return to the Netherlands.

The Dutch international, who only signed for Arsenal in January has returned to Ajax, the club she left to sign for Arsenal.

While Arsenal themselves have given no reason as to why the highly-regarded player has left, it seems as if Hoogendijk was unhappy with the amount of playing time she had been given since arriving at the club.

She is believed to have been one of many players unhappy at the management style of manager Shelly Kerr who also left the club recently.

The ladies got their league campaign off to a poor start this season, failing to win any of their first four games. They did, however, get back to winning ways on Sunday when they defeated Liverpool 1-0 courtesy of a Casey Stoney goal. View the highlights of that game here.

Another puzzle with Kerrs reign, I don’t think Hoogendijk ever played a full game. Hard to understand ignoring completely an international player that you have signed for the club.

Without saying much that would get me in to trouble, there were issues with the majority of the team & Kerr from day one. Just look at the number of departures recently.

Always struck me as odd to buy her and then never use her. i noticed the mass exodus from the club this past year and I can only put most of it down to Kerr clashing with players… our club was decimated and no wonder we’ve been underperforming. obviously the bad feeling was there too long for anouk to stay!
