Right-back completes Arsenal medical

calum chambers

The BBC are reporting that Southampton’s young right-back Calum Chambers has completed a medical at Arsenal ahead of a £16m move.

The 19-year-old, who has made 25 appearances for the club, is likely to come is as back up for new boy Mathieu Debuchy but is also able to play at centreback, a position Arsenal certainly need reinforced.

The report comes from David Ornstein who tends to be very reliable when it comes to these things and it would seem as if Carl Jenkinson is heading for the door, whether that is on a temporary or permanent basis, no-one can quite say at present.

With Arsenal already confirming the signings of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy and Wenger confirming that David Ospina will be at the club next season, Chambers would be Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer window and we aren’t even out of July yet.

Following in Liverpool’s footsteps, Arsenal don’t seem to be done raiding Southampton as they continue to be liked with midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

…that’s what Ornstein is saying and he tends to be unbelievably reliable.

young, talented RB with great potential that can also play at CB…

jenks isn’t good enough atm so i support the idea of adding a new RB, he should go out on load somewhere and play week in week out…

and it wouldn’t surprise me if this deal means that vermaelen will be allowed to leave, hopefully not to man utd because knowing our lack he’ll magically rediscover his best form there…

Yeah, the market has moved, and so have we. This was inevitable with the new TV money – everything got inflated. The good news is that we’re now keeping pace.

Still one of my funniest Wenger moments was when he criticised Ferguson for paying 12 million for a teenager (Ronaldo), then went and signed Theo for 12 million.
