Arsenal injuries mount along with the Schwarzer speculation

So the main story of the day seems to once again revolve around Mark Schwarzer and his reported ‘desperation’ to join Arsenal and play some champions league football before he’s collecting his pension.

Despite Fulham’s denial that the Australian had handed in a transfer request people allegedly close to MS said he did indeed email in a request. Mark Hughes telling a porkie? I don’t believe it.

Regardless, it seems he has returned home early from international duty to have a showdown with Hughes which is nowhere near as exciting as it could be as I’m sure there are no pistols involved.

There are, of course, comparisons to be drawn with the Cesc non-transfer in that you have a player who wants to leave, a club that wants to buy and a manager who is refusing to be budged. But that is where the comparisons end. Had Cesc handed in a transfer request, and Barcelona made a realistic offer there is no doubt that he would now be a Barcelona player. If Schwarzer has indeed put in a request and we have made a realistic offer I can see no way how Fulham can think that keeping him would be of any benefit to the club. It is also different because Schwarzer is at the end of his career and this his last realistic chance of playing at a level Fulham are a millennium away from reaching.

Whatever happens it is doubtful that it will be resolved before the trip to Liverpool, and even if it is I cannot see him being thrown in with no time to get to know the defence.

Then again…

Anyways, let’s get on to the pointless international round-up which goes like this:

Cesc managed 45 minutes which to me, depending on travel, proves that he is more than fit to give at least equal that on Sunday.

Carlos Vela played 58 minutes but we know from past experience that a match in Mexico means that Carlos can’t play for another four months.

Thomas Vermaelen played a ridiculous 90 minutes though I’m trying to look at this as being
crucial to his fitness levels ahead of Sunday rather than knackering him needlessly.

By all reports, the 78 minutes in which Nasri was on the pitch for France were nothing short of inspirational. I really feel he is going to be our star player this year, but I am also terrified that we are angering the injury gods by daring to think such a thing.

TR7 got 61 minutes but I’ve no idea how he got on. He is still in one piece so that’s always a bonus.

Fabianski got a lot of stick last night for Poland’s 3-0 defeat, most of it unfair as he had been taken off at half-time and had only conceded one of the goals.

Arshavin managed 79 minutes for Russia and I really hope he’s fit as well know how much he loves to play at Anfield.

Chamakh got on the score sheet for Morocco but I’ve no idea how many minutes he played and I couldn’t be bothered finding out.

Eboue, who played a day earlier than everyone else, played the full 90  minutes, but as he is the Energizer bunny we should have no worries about him for Sunday.

Finally, Theo, who was by far the best player in an England shirt in the first half was strangely (but thankfully) taken off at half-time. Gibbs came on at half-time and was simply magnificent. Wilshere got eight minutes at the end of the match which I thought was pretty pointless until I found out he had been in hospital the night before with stomach pains and was under doctors orders not to play any more than 10 minutes. At least, that’s what they are saying.

So far everyone seems to have made it through in one piece, although you never can tell what catastrophes await them all on their journey’s back. That being said, Wenger was talking about the injuries ahead of the weekend’s trip to Anfield and it seems that while Denilson and Diaby will face fitness tests prior to the match, Djourou has shown just why he cannot possibly be relied on for a full season by being out with a hamstring problem. To be fair to him hamstring problems are to be expected after such a long time out, but that scuppers the plans many of us had to have him stand in for Song who had been training all week but seems almost certain to miss the match with a calf strain.

Arshavin will be available, and Cesc and VP may be too. As I said above, if Cesc is fit for his country he is fit for his club and I sense some midngames from Arsene, trying to get Liverpool lulled in to a false sense of security by making them think we have no midfield to speak of.

There was talk around the interweb that our midfield injuries showed that our squad was too light in midfield (as well as at the back) but that is just bollocks. No club could withstand the loss of four players from midfield without looking threadbare.

Bloody hell, the season hasn’t even started and already I’m having to talk about how we are being decimated through injuries and defend the depth of our squad because of the depth of our injuries. It is simply not feasible to have double the amount of players as every one else because we suffer double the amount of injuries, and with the new 25-squad limits, we wouldn’t be allowed to do that even if it was.

What the hell is the problem Arsenal? How long is it going to take to sort out? Are we just overly-cautious or do we actually not know how to prevent these injuries? Questions need answered as we can’t possible endure another season in which injuries surpass those of the year just past. If that happens we will finish the season playing the entire U18 squad.

You think I’m joking?

Blah.

Finally, I’m not sure if you’ve seen this, and while I’m loathed to give them free advertising, it does feature two of our boys – Chamakh and Arshavin. enjoy:

Lookin’ good.

Who's the bloke with the sweet t-shirt?

  • LadyArse

That's @Yebs who bought one of my tshirts and kindly sent me a photo of it :)

  • Sairax

As long as Arshavin is fit we're sure to get an Anfield hattrick!

  • Dave

omigod its so close i can almost taste it…..

  • LadyArse

from a relatively reliable twitter source – Expect Mark Schwarzer in goal for Anfield. What I'm hearing is that it's moving quickly and decisively

  • LadyArse

Announcement expected tomorrow afternoon…which is just perfect as I'm due to be out all day and will miss all the fun ffs lmao

  • LadyArse

Evening Standard report Mark Schwarzer has agreed personal terms with Arsenal. Fee likely to be £3m

  • LadyArse

He updated – I've just spoke with a contact close to Fulham. On the money

  • Sairax

    Whoa dude!

  • LadyArse

What else can I say probably won't happen? lol There's NO way RVP and Cesc will play on Sunday ;p

  • Anonymous
  • Sairax

Remember all your freaky predicions with your polls last season too?

  • Anonymous

The only viable explanation to the amount of injuries we have that I´ve heard of, is that the pitches at London Colney are specifically cut very short and that several England internationals have complained that the pitches are too hard.

  • Anonymous

if we get schwarzer and another cb then we will be okay, otherwise theres no way we will finish higher than 3rd

  • LadyArse

"I need it to happen," said Schwarzer, who believes it's his last chance to join a big club with his 38th birthday looming.

"I've had a couple of chats with Mark [Hughes]. It's delicately poised.

"Who wouldn't be keen to go to Arsenal? At this stage in my career it's an amazing opportunity to play at that level and one I really want to take.

  • Sairax

Cheers anon about the pitch stuff

    Also: In your face Hughes!

  • Anonymous

Fabianski got a lot of stick last night for Poland's 3-0 defeat, most of it unfair as he had been taken off at half-time and had only conceded one of the goals.

but the goal that he DID concede was absolutely horrific…. !!!

  • LadyArse

Hughes in all his glory -

Schwarzer's deal looked likely to push ahead in June when former Fulham boss Roy Hodgson told the Australian he'd do everything in his power to push the move through.

But Hodgson's exit to Liverpool muddied the waters and Fulham refused to sell Schwarzer while they searched for a managerial replacement.

Hughes then declared he would not sell Schwarzer.

  • LadyArse

    @Anon Re: Fabianski ssshhhhhh lol

  • LadyArse

Same source – Mark Schwarzer in. Vito Mannone to Middlesbrough on loan.

  • Anonymous

for sure, if fabianski is ever in goal for us again we concede at every decent corner into the box, hes the worst arsenal keeper in years

  • LadyArse

Now saying it could even be announced tonight…O.M.G lmao I'm too excitable

  • Sairax

    IN YOUR FACE!

(I missed that CC match where he was a total douchebag to Wenger on the touchline but I was so pissed when I heard about it)

  • LadyArse

I will be monitoring this all night so as soon as anything happens I'll announce it here and via my twitter @ladyarse

  • Anonymous

i'll eat my hat if it happens, but arsenal would never announce a signing on a thursday night would they? lol.. more likely to happen on transfer friday or arse.com always the day

  • LadyArse

Not even a whisper on SSN….

  • Sairax

Don't leave me alone LA I might pass out in disbelief at any moment

  • LadyArse

@Sairax did you get a twitter account yet?

  • Sairax

I'm resisting every urge! I got rid of FB last year only to have you seduce me with twitter lol

  • Tristan

OMG I am so excited, even if he is Australian …

  • Sairax

@Arsenal_legrove "How many memories do you have of Schwarzer being great? I have none, yet it feels like Pele just signed

  • LadyArse

OMG Sairax you have to get on Twitter NOWWWWWW lol

  • Anonymous

i know schwarzer is a good keeper but hes still pretty mistake prone.. he cocked up majorly against us at the emirates and was awful in the world cup.. STILL

    ANYTHING is better than fabianski

  • Anonymous

Nothing wwrong with us aussies mate :)

its 4am here and was about to go to sleep now i can't stop hitting refresh button you've got my heart pumping (so sad) lol

  • Tristan

I grew up in New Zealand lol, so yeah, I am excited despite the fact that he is an Aussie lol

  • LadyArse

@thegoonblog Messi aint got shit on Schwarzer

    LMFAO

  • Sairax

    LOL!
Anyway I like Schwartzer. If his shotstopping is as good as Al and can yell more, organize a defense, release the ball better, have the confidence of the defense, and not flap at crosses, then I'm good

  • LadyArse

@Sairax It's hilarious that our two are so bad I don't care that MS would come in the bottom half of any list I would make if asked to order PL keepers lol

  • LadyArse

@Thegoonblog – RT @thegoonblog: What I'm hearing is thats Schwarzer may not be the first arrival. Looks like MS is happening fast but there might be another.

Someone else tweeted me that they are hearing about a German CB called Maik Franz

Tis all kicking off tonight (well, the rumours are any way lol)

  • Tristan

I am certain MS wont be the first arrival, if I recall correctly Chamakh beet him to it by a good 3 months!

  • Sairax

Well the arrival of a CB has been expected as far as I could tell, it was just the who and when. Keeping my eyes peeled

  • LadyArse

@Tristan lol I think they meant today

  • Anonymous

maik franz is 29 has never played for a top club before, if we are after him.. WHY??!?

  • LadyArse

    @Anon because he isn't Silvestre?

  • Anonymous

    Aussie_gooner

this better happen now i'm sooo tired but you've got me absolutely hooked i swear this turns out to be nothing i'll never read this forum again :) and thats a shame cos i like this site

  • LadyArse

the psychological lift of not having AL or Fab behind them cannot be over-estimated for our defence

  • Anonymous

@LadyArse i hope we would be after players who are not even compared to silvestre lol!

  • LadyArse

    @Anon fair point lol

  • LadyArse

OMG why does this feel like deadline day? lol

  • Sairax

@LadyArse Yeah I think that's a good point, and if they communicate well then that should be a big boost so hopefully they can try and get along well these next couple of days. Plus Schwarzer will want to prove himself with us, that he can be a good keeper at a high level. Just trying to be positive everyone!

  • Anonymous

    Aussie_gunner

Because we've been waiting for a goalkeeper all transfer season that why it feels like deadline day.

to be honest we've been waiting a few seasons lol

  • Anonymous

at the end of the day schwarzer is only an improvement on almunia and fabianski… still depressing that we arent targeting better keepers but wenger wont spend much on anyone let alone a keeper

  • Sairax

He wants a stopgap until Chesney comes through. Hopefully Chesney can learn off Schwarzer as well and establish himself as our keeper in waiting

  • LadyArse

I'm not too depressed, it means Chesney will be number one next year :)

  • LadyArse

    @Sairax lol I didn't see your comment, hadn't refreshed my screen…oops

  • LadyArse

Chesney will be well chuffed that he gets to train with a keeper who actually knows what he's doing

@Anon nothing yet…as soon as I hear anything I'll be sure to post it, I'll be here for a good few hours yet

  • Anonymous

pls pls dont talk bullsh..!!! Are u pretty sure Schwarzer will be our new GK???

  • LadyArse

@Anon I'm not 100% but I'd be fairly certain, must stress – nothing is confirmed as yet but as soon as it is I'll post here

  • Aussie_gooner

k I'll be the one refreshing every 5 min lol

  • Anonymous

    great!!! You made my day!!!

  • chester

Just heard that Schwarzer is injured right now, so even if he signs for us within the next 24 hours, he certainly won't play at Anfield…but LadyArse, I must say, you got me really excited by your comments… :D Is it absolutely desperate that we all got excited by a keeper that let 4 goals in in the last game of last season? :D I think that…Sorensen for instance would be a better improvement, but Schwarzer would be ok as well… At least Dumb and Dumber would be sidelined and wouldn't cost us any more points… And LadyArse, what about those photographers? Anything new on that subjects?

  • LadyArse

@Chester it has all gone quiet…but I think that's because everyone is away to get their dinner lol

  • LadyArse

PS If he's injured we must DEF be signing him lol

  • LadyArse

and somebody gave the Ninja a heads up

  • Sairax

I think there is still 24h before Wenger has to submit his squad list for anfield so it's possible he could start….I think

  • Sairax

Oh whoops I skipped the part where you said he was injured. lol sorry! Wait, what he's injured? Please no!

  • chester

From ESPN – Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has pleaded with the club to allow him to join Arsenal.

Arsenal have been linked with Schwarzer for the past month, but Arsene Wenger's interest was said to have cooled after he was quoted a price of £4 million by Fulham.

Schwarzer, 37, is to have showdown talks with new Fulham manager Mark Hughes as soon as he returns from international duty, having featured in Australia's 2-0 defeat to Slovenia. Schwarzer rescheduled his flight back from Slovenia to meet with Hughes.

The former Middlesbrough goalkeeper is desperate to head to Emirates Stadium as their new No. 1 after making it clear he does not want to stay at Fulham.

"I need it to happen," Schwarzer told the Australian Daily Telegraph. "I've had a couple of chats with Mark. It's delicately poised. Who wouldn't be keen to go to Arsenal?

"At this stage in my career it's an amazing opportunity to play at that level and one I really want to take. Only time will tell whether that happens or not."

Schwarzer denied he would pull himself out of Saturday's game against Bolton Wanderers to engineer a move as the club's haggle over a transfer fee, but he could miss the game through injury.

"I have never sat out a game [to prove a point] and never would," Schwarzer said. "But it needs to be resolved sooner rather than later. I'm not sure whether I'll play [for Fulham] on the weekend. I've got a few little injury problems but we'll have to wait and see how I pull up when I return to London."

Well, we will see how it works out, butFgod, if he signs, I wouldn't be nervous when there's a corner or a free kick against us at last :D

And the team would finally get someone between the sticks who wouldn't be a disaster waiting to happen…and the players could actually rely on him… It's a lot easier to play as a defender when you know that when you screw something up, there is always a goalie who would fix it, and not screw it up even more…

    Shit, I'm excited :D

  • LadyArse

@Chester I posted that earlier lol

  • chester

lol, I haven't noticed :D But there's a pharagraph where he says he is injured, that's why I posted it…

  • Sairax

    Cheers Chester :)

Anyone know if Torres is fit for Sunday? Hope Gerrard and johnston are tired from yesterday.

Listening to Football Weekly Extraaaaaa right now

  • LadyArse

@Sairax where did you get that? I'm searching iTunes now but it's not there….I had it last season

  • Begeegs

Sorry LA, I couldn't resist the observation. I am also quite keen on Scwartzer coming in. He is what we need, a sweeper keeper. I do like Almunia, but Arsenal aren't the team for him. A team where similar keepers don't need to claim a lot of crosses like Villa, for example, because the defence deals with it. In Wenger's side, you need a keeper who can clean up. I still think that Lehmann was the best that I have seen in a while including Seaman (yes, I will get slated for this), but he was perfect for Arsenal.

  • Kipmonster

@ Anon …… 'would the club really conduct a medical at 9.15 on a thursday night? lol.. hmmm' is a dumb comment, every last day transfer window such activity goes on up to Midnight. This would be no different with desperate desire for Schwarzer to be eligible for Anfield.
Can't believe I'm so eager with anticipation at the signing of a near 38 year old but that's what our 2 Clowns have reduced me too.
I agree with Lady Arse about Djourou hamstring injury but that makes it more ridiculous that at least 1 experienced CB not yet signed when 5 have left this Summer & only 1 with a single season of top division football has come in.

  • Aussie_gooner

lol went to sleep around 5am wating was so hoping it would have been all done an dusted when i woke up but i suppose i'll have to wait for you all to wake up

Common Arsene get your pen out :)

LA, what the hell happened in here? i go to your blog and theres 125 comments? Geeez you threw a party and didnt even invite me? That is so messed up ;) Juuuust jokin.

So do your sources know what there talking about or are they just messin with you? It would suck if all this time what they said wasnt correct and you took the shit for it. Hope everything goes well and i hope we get the CB first the the GK, a CB is number 1 on what we need 2nd is a GK.

  • Chris M

    then the GK*

  • paultess

Hi Lady Arse, regarding Schwarzer, I would be interested to know who leaked the story regarding Arsenal's interest.
If it was Schwarzer, his agent or Fulham then Arsenal are blameless; if it was Arsenal it is just the same as Barcelona's underhand dealings.
Offering a professional the opportunity to play in The Champions League and the possibility of a Premiership Champion challenge is an offer most professionals would be unable to turn down, particularly at the late stage of their career.
I would love if he joined us but hope that we didn't leak the information that we had made a bid.

  • Anonymous

@Kipmonster but he's meant to be currently injured, so wont need rushing back for anfield since he wouldnt play anyway

  • Anonymous

so wenger held an interview!! did he say anything regarding GK. It would be a wonder if he did. Hopefully didnt deny any new arrivals, which would kill us off!!

  • Anonymous

thx LA :-( . You missunderstood something!! Wenger is the close signing!! I cant believe it!!! Hope the real fans turn against him!!!

  • Sairax

Ok I'm online and I'm gonna go try to catch up now lol

  • Sairax

All right, here's what I got: Mark Hughes is a giant arse. Awaiting confirmation.

  • Anonymous

basically wengers said hes happy with two keepers who have underperformed for the whole of last season, flapping at corners, costing us points.. i cannot believe wengers sticking with them i honestly and sadly believe we will finish 4th at best although we may be lucky to get top 4… ive had it with wenger

  • Anonymous

and before anyone says anything i will still be supporting our team because i am addicted to this club, its just killing me seeing those two in goal for us, esp fabianski.. i'd be at peace with anyone else in goal just not him

  • DanKing

Anon @ 3:35: I agree with you. A position that everyone and their dog knows needs strengthening and he didn't. I understand that we can't always get what we want, but still. I'm seriously having doubts about our back 5 for the season. If Kos isn't up to par, then what do we do? And we will suffer injuries back there, hell already have. We would've been much closer to the title last year if not for our keepers costing us points with terrible play.

I also think its time for AW to tell some players to either improve or be prepared to get the hell out because they're holding us back. Some players respond better to getting ripped into than being told: "oh you'll get 'em next time."

I'll be supporting the team as much as ever this season, its just not the same excitement as before.

And Sairax: you don't need confirmation on that, everyone knows it

  • Sairax

Arseblog mentioned inanimate carbon rod in the arsecast! There were also several c—s mentioned. Several!
