No time to dwell on yesterdays match, we have another one tomorrow (nice scheduling FA, thanks) and the prospect for people without tickets in the UK of watching the next three Arsenal matches on an illegal stream as none of them are on the TV.
I guess it’s not like we are second in the league and the only club that can win all four trophies or anything like that huh?
Deadline day today with the transfer window closing at 11pm tonight, and, at the time of writing, there has been no movement at Arsenal, apart from a few kids going out on loan. There was one rumour that Man City were looking at bringing in Almunia so that Given could leave but there’s nothing more than that at the minute. With the news that Fabianski might need surgery on his shoulder, and Mannone at Hull until the end of the season, it’s a big call to let Almunia go. While I’ve been flippant in the past, the thought of having to play Shea for a run of games should anything happen to Chesney doesn’t really bear thinking about, so even I think we should consider holding on to Almunia ‘just in case.’
I know, who’d have thunk it huh?
The injury news from yesterday isn’t all that encouraging. With Nasri set to have his scan today, reports across various media have him out anywhere between two and six weeks. Two we can manage, hell, we can manage six as well, but it would be a massive blow, Having the season of his life, when he combines with Fabregas, Theo and RVP, it transforms our side and will be a massive miss.
Denilson is also out with a hamstring problem, presumably the one he pulled up with yesterday but was able to carry on with. I’ve watched football for over 30 years and I cannot recall a single player who pulled a hamstring and then was running properly a few minutes later.
It really is a strange one.
The player himself had this to say regarding playing on after he was injured:
“My leg, it feels a little bit sore but I think in three days I’ll be back to training normal. When Rosicky passed to me in the box when I’m crossing to him I just go out and he said if I didn’t come back we was nine on the pitch and I said to him it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter if I feel it more, I need to, I wanted to play and he said ok.”
That may not be an exact transcript of what he said, there was some mumbling and I have dodgy ears, but you should get the jist.
That means that going in to tomorrow’s match against Everton we will be without Nasri, Denilson, Fabianski, Vermaelen and Squillaci.
What makes things slightly more laughable is the crying ‘Arry did after his team’s FA Cup humiliation about their injury crisis. Take a look at the table here (which hasn’t been updated with our new injuries) and you see that there really is nothing at all between the injuries they’ve suffered and the ones we’ve had to endure. The difference? They are seen as having an injury crisis whereas we are seen as having a decent season injury-wise.
Laughable huh?
Anyone hear the word ‘crisis’ when we were without around eight first team players for practically every match last season? Nah, didn’t think so.
That’s about your lot today, I’m covering deadline day on Twitter, which you can follow @LadyArse.
