As you were for Arsenal as they prepare to face Everton

So, the madness that is the transfer window has finished for another season, but the ramifications of this one may be felt for some time to come.

Firstly, the fact that Torres joins a Chelsea side who still have to play Man United twice could go a long way in helping us win the league. Thanks Roman, money well spent. Add to that Carroll’s over-inflated fee of £35m which seems like great business now, but will it seem that way if Newcastle are relegated as they cannot replace his match-winning goals?

Only time will tell.

Of course, as expected, there was no movement at Arsenal save for a few youngsters going on loan or changing loans.

It astounds me that so called experts are criticising Wenger for his transfer activities or lack off. Over the past few years we have been told that it would be Arsenal who drop out of the top four, it was Liverpool. We’ve been told we can’t keep Cesc when we did and Liverpool lost Torres, while Man United lost Ronaldo, Tevez and almost Rooney. We were told if we didn’t spend we would slide down the league, well we didn’t and look where we are now, Liverpool did and look at them, and still with no stadium any closer to being built.

The only thing splashing the cash around does is ensure that one day you have to pay the bill.

It was Man United who had to pay their own player a load more to keep them, not Arsenal. It was Chelsea that had to break the UK transfer record to try and keep their place in the top four, not us, even when crippled with injuries last season.

Does Wenger get any credit for this?

If Wenger said there was no-one available who  would fit into our team, then I believe him. I don’t believe he refused to look as some have said (but couldn’t possibly know), I don’t believe it is a tightness or a stinginess or any of the accusations levelled at him. To simply say ‘Wenger won’t spend’ is too easy, it doesn’t take into consideration all the other factors which come in to play when you want to sign a player – does he want to move, will he be allowed to leave, can he handle the premier league, can he fit our system, will he add to our team, will he demand ridiculous money, is he fit enough, what’s his attitude like, the list is extensive. It’s not just about one man and his purse-strings, no matter what people will have you believe.

Pah, it’s a long discussion for day when we don’t have a match.

So, a Pienaar-less Everton this evening and we all remember what happened when we played them at the Emirates last season. Most people who were there froze in the ground, many didn’t make it as their flights were stranded, and I ended up stuck in Belfast with a chest infection when I was supposed to be at the game. It finished 2-2 and a combination of awful defending, poor finishing, Pienaar lobbing and Almunia sitting down meant we only came away from this game with a point.

Don’t believe me? Watch this (around the 14min mark watch as he makes himself as small as possible)

This season we should not be happy with that at all (the performance of certain players or the point).

Ok, so the team only played 48 hours ago but most of the personnel will be different so tiredness cannot be an excuse. If we are to maintain our delusions of becoming champions we simply must win our home games, and although we won in the FA Cup at the weekend, the manner of that victory was not-so-sweet.

Tonight though, we will have three quarters of Theo Van Nasregas back in action, and the only real question is who will stay in the side to replace the injured Nasri.

If I had to make a call, I’d say we will be lining up like this:

Chesney, Sagna, Kos, Djourou, Clichy, Song, Cesc, Jack, Theo, Van Persie, Arshavin.

Of course, Andrei worked his tiny little legs of only 48 hours ago so we might see Nik start in his place, or Rosicky, or even Diaby. You just wouldn’t know.

Did you know that we haven’t conceded a goal in the opening 15 minutes of a league match this season? Me either, and a nice stat that shows we start matches well and focused. What happens as the game wears on we can only guess.

100% for 90 plus injury. That’s Arsenal, that’s all.

The first few paragraphs have increased my Arsenalophobia. Its easy to predict our lineup today & so my Predo is 2-1.

A well put together post on Wenger. Would of liked to of seen him pick up say Alonso or a quality GK/CB over the last couple of seasons but can’t really argue with the situation we are in now.

What a refreshing change from the blogs moaning about Wenger and the team. Thank you and please keep it up.

Thank god that ONE blogger has some common sense and rational thinking out there. The rest of the bloggers and readers are the types who threw tantrums when mommy didn’t buy them candy at the shop.
Support the team, manager and even the board. If you want an irreponsible team that throws away money and young players then the spuds and chelski await.

Cheers for that guys…I do have my ‘down’ days where a certain player or two aggravates me to the point of exploding, but that usually passes quickly. I know how lucky we are to have Wenger in charge….long may it continue

brilliant blog today, would like to see AA start on the left, i think this may be the game he scores his chances, plus it would be interesting to see if his work rate matches up to the rest of our starting 11.

i dnt kno y so many are complaining about bringing in new players, we have the beast of a bench with, bendy, chamakh, rosiscky, diaby and denilson, we can even afford to send out players like ramsey and vela. i would be more than happy if we dn’t sign anyone for the next 3 season

no one is doubting our attacking options coming off the bench. would i have liked to see a cb brought in? sure, but i really didn’t see anyone that was available that would’ve been an upgrade over squill, so what would’ve been the point? if one of them gets injured bring up one of the youngsters, or bring back some loaned players. can’t say it won’t worry me if we have to resort to that, but hey we’ve got to see if they’re good enough, have potential, or neither.

Wouldn’t start AA tonight he might be working his arse off but this game is massive and we need everybody up to speed.

IMO AW should have bought a CB yesterday. TV5 will probably not be seen again this season, SS is a liability and if we get an injury or suspension to JD or Kos we are in trouble. If you bring Song back to CB then we lose out in midfield.

Need a win tonight got this feeling for 1-1 hope I’m wrong.

Thank whoever is in charge for Wenger

I cannot fathom what passes for thinking going on (if you can grace it with the word thinking) at Cheatski and the Kop! the only winner in todays transfer dealing is Newcastle who can laugh all the way to the bank with 35Msterling in their relegation bound pockets!
I understand the panic at Cheatski since their current form will see them miss out on a CL spot, the EPL title and it appears one EC season is enough for Liverpool, BUT spending Real Madrid style money to try and salvage a season that has been less than stellar so far is sheer insanity.
It is the equivalent of relying on the handbrake to stop a lorry from hitting a wall going 100 kpm from 50 feet away…..it is expecting a miracle!
Cheatski paid 50M sterling for an oft-injured, under-performing and not very loyal spanish ¨star¨ in the hope that he’ll integrate with Anelka,Drogba and others to rescue the season over the next 3 months.
The Kop are hoping that Carroll will step up and fill Torres’ shoes playing alongside the most under-achieving team in the EPL! Frankly I don’t see either team really turning it around in a short time but if they do, they’ll both have to beat big teams and play super-consistently from now on.
Arsenal are 2nd in the EPL and nipping at United’s heels…if they win tonight they’ll be 2 points behind United, 8 points ahead of Cheatski and 16 points ahead of Liverpool having spent 0 Sterling in the panic window just closed and having sent 16 players out on loan this season! Doesn’t that say it all???

Did you have to bring up those bad memories from last season, as I sat on a plane for hours only to be sent home and Clownshoe had 4 seats to himself, never mind Almunia or the ninja taking out Denilson.
Ps Did Clownshoe ever re emerge?
