Djourou Season May NOT Be Over

Reports are coming out of Switzerland that Djourou’s shoulder injury is not as bad as feared and there is talk that he could be fit to play for Switzerland on March 26th. If true, this news is a huge boost to Arsenal as they attempt to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

It is reported that he suffered no fracture or bone injury and the ligament damage is not as severe as first feared.

Earlier in the season, when Djourou injured his knee, it was the Swiss FA who estimated the date of his return and they were more or less exactly right.

Fingers crossed.

Would a translation by someone who knows French be possible? I hate using google translate as you always loose out on certain things.

How can you be more or less exactly right?? You’re either exactly right or more or less right!

The article says that there’s no damage to the bones and that the ligaments, which were inevitably damaged by the dislocation, are not in too bad shape either. He’s still got further more detailed assessment to go through before any decision is made.

Sounds promising BUT I’d warn people not to get carried away. I know from personal experience (ankle rather than shoulder) that loosened ligaments never really heal properly without surgery and the risk of another dislocation is high every time a player who has had this kind of injury falls. Ask Theo! I can remember others in the distant past having had similar problems (Brian Robson and Mark Lawrenson spring to mind); they tried to get away without surgery but eventually needed it. Hope that’s not true for JD but he might be better off kissing goodbye to this season, having the surgery now, and getting fully fit for next year.

RT @bbcsport_david: Breaking: #Arsenal say SwissFA “inaccurate”. #AFC expect Djourou to have surgery after seeing specialist Thur + wud then miss rest of season

Sahil………it says, in a nutshell that the damage appears to be less severe than originally predicted BUt they need to analyse the results of the tests done to determine if surgery is necessary. If not then he might be able to return by the end of March…..seems a bit optimistic to me but I’ll take any potentially good news after the last 2 weeks we’ve had.

Thanks! I see a big article on Ignasi Miquel (and another piece on George Brislen Hall) on the official club website. Seems like they are prepping up people to get used to atleast Miquel for the rest of the season.
