Jack’s back plus some transfer stuff

Weeks aren’t half long without Arsenal eh?  Yesterday saw quite some excitement explode across Twitter as it was announced that Jack would take part in a behind doors friendly tonight against Birmingham Reserves.  I know I speak for just about everyone when I say how much we’ve missed him this season.  Selling Fabregas and then losing the player meant to replace him hurt us, and while that’s not to take away from Arteta or the reborn Rosicky, neither of those players are a patch on Jack.  What could we have done this season with his ability in the middle of the park?  I don’t like to live with ‘what if’s’ and ‘if only’s’, I find they are the quickest route to madness no matter what the subject, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not feeling a little bit hard done by that we had to do without him for so long.

The timing of his return, should it go to plan, could not be better.  Well, it could, he could have been back six months ago, that would have been a lot better, and while it’s important not to heap too much pressure on a player who has been out all season, to have him for the final few games when we really need to make sure that we gain maximum points while also scoring as many goals as possible is the reverse of what we’re used to.  No doubt the injury gods will seek to punish us by taking van Persie and Koscielny.  That’s how this works right?

Compared to Jack’s imminent return, nothing else seems worth talking about.  There are some transfer rumours about stories linking us with a £30 or £40 or even £50 million move for Montpellier’s Oliver Giroud.  I’m not going to pretend I know anything about him and I haven’t even watched his highlights on You Tube but I do know Arsene and this would seem like a most unlikely transfer indeed. Who knows, he might shock us all one day, I just don’t think it’s going to be with this player.

I find it very funny, with just about every site on the internet stating that Podolski is a done deal that we are also linked with at least another five forwards.  The scattergun approach to journalism – if we name them all we might get the chance to say ‘we were right.’  What we mustn’t forget is that we also have Vela and Bendtner on our books, two players who are currently enjoying quite a decent loan spell at present.  I know most people would like to see us sell both these players, but I’ve always rated Vela and hoped that Bendtner could fulfil his own hype and if those two could come good along with RvP re-signing and Podolski coming in I think we’d be ok.  Let’s not forget, we also have Chamakh and Park (stop laughing) and there are murmurs that neither of those will be going anywhere and you just can’t stockpile forwards, we aren’t Man City.  But then, what do I know eh?

I guess it makes a change to be linked with one million forwards rather than every defender on the planet I guess. Just for the sake of shaking things up.

Silly season is very much upon us and it’s only just turned April.

Comments from Theo about Ryo and how Theo believes that the Japanese youngster can play a lot more regularly at Arsenal next season have morphed in to Ryo will definitely play more regularly at Arsenal next season.  As with any young player we need to be careful with how much we hype him up and how much we expect when he does come back.  There is no doubting the kid has a real talent, but he is still that – a kid.  Ease up eh?

That’s your lot from me today, back tomorrow. Keep an eye out for a new wallpaper coming up at some point today.

Leanne…why do you even bother to give the slightest credence to this rumour-mongering BS by entertaining it on your blog? We all know its hyperbole and lazy journalism…we(AFC) are so much better than that!!! Happy Easter by the way!
