Premier League Injury Table

Once again, for the 12th week this season, Man City have zero players injured.  The closest team to Man City for injury free weeks is Villa with four. Liverpool have managed two weeks with no players injured while Wigan, Blackburn, West Brom, Wolves and Chelsea have all had one.  Every other team has had at least one player injured every week of the season.  The most players City have had out at any one time has been four (twice) while Man United’s most has been 13 (once). United have also have 12 players out twice this season.  Man United have never had fewer than four players out injured at any time this season.

The most players Arsenal have had out in any one week has been 10 (twice) while they have also had nine (eight times), eight (three times), seven (twice), six (eight times), five (ten times).  Arsenal have never had less than four players injured at any one time this season (twice).

As usual, one player out for one week equals one injury point. The figures are taken at the same time each week.

The average for the season is 148.

To be fair, that score included Bebe for many weeks and he’s not really a footballer

    • Adam

Also includes Vidic and Fletcher for many weeks. They are quite good last i heard….

Given Bebe is at Besiktas on loan and has been since June 2011, then no, it doesn’t.

In terms of Injuries and games missed though, Man Utd have had:
      Lindegaard
      Ferdinand
      Vidic
      Smalling
      Jones
      Rafael
      Fabio
      Fletcher
      Anderson
      Young
      Nani
      Valencia
      Hernandez

Now given they’re all senior players and barring Fabio, Smalling and Jones, would all likely start or be very close to starting games then they’ve done well to do as well as they have.

Not sure what this really indicates. Having one key player out for 49 weeks is surely more significant than having 28 reserves out for 10 weeks ? Not that ManC have have had a player out for 49 weeks or that ManU have 28 reserves….just making an observation that who is injured is more important than how many/for how long

And does this in some way indicate that clubs with high scores have bad medical teams who take longer to get players fit ? Or that they have players who’s bodies take longer to heal ?

arsenal lost their 1st and 2nd choice fullbacks for weeks!! jack(player of the season last year) never played!!

  • Nospamthanks

Exactly batman…..unless you put some context around the numbers, they are nothing but that….meaningless numbers.

For this table to mean something it kinda needs a player rating applied to it. RvP or jack being injured should multiply their score by 10, while a player in the reserves multiplies his score by 0.5 ?

It is not designed to be perfect. I neither have the time nor the resources to make this ‘perfect’ plenty of people see value in it, even if it is flawed.

I keep saying to anyone who’ll listen that Fergie has got to be the best manager ever, the way he’s kept his team in the hunt all season despite the injury problems.  Fletcher and Vidic out for the season, a Derby day thrashing and then the reds pull round and put in an astonishing effort to keep up with City.  Even as a City fan, I’ve got to admire that.
