News, it seems, is very light on the ground when I comes to Arsenal. We shouldn’t grumble, after signing a player this week we should all, rightly, still be in shock.
What I could find about the interweb was mostly just transfer rumour and speculation, like the reports that we are after another Barcelona youngster – the one everyone thinks is called ‘Wanka’ but is actually called ‘Cuenca.’ I don’t know anything about him but I do know that when we are linked with Barcelona kids my heart sinks as I imagine the torture we have to endure five years later as they demand to have a player back they were only too willing to let go.
Talks are progressing, apparently, over the signing of Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen (or, Bert Dongle as I’ve christened him due to my inability to spell). The move is being reported to be worth £7m but, as with all things transferry, I’ll believe it when it’s on Arsenal.com and not before.
Aleksandar Dragovic, a defender with Basle, has claimed that we are interested in him along with a host of other clubs in what sounds like an agent trying to engineer a move more than anything substantial that Arsenal might actually be up to but, then, with Arsenal, you never do know. At 21 he’s the right age for us. He told ESPN Star “There are seven teams interested, two of which are from Russia. They would be very financially lucrative, but I am not looking for the most money. My contract runs until 2015, so if a club wants me, they’ll have to put a bit of money on the table. Also I feel very comfortable here and in 18 months here I have developed twice as much as I could have done in Austria.”
Reading the rest of the article from which that quote comes he doesn’t actually mention Arsenal at all, perhaps he relayed the information to the reporter telepathically.
Reports that one of our other alleged targets, M’Vila, spent the night in jail after being accused of punching a 17 year old, saw some in the know types on the internet claim that we’ve now ended our interest as he comes with too much baggage. Rumours based on speculation grounded in allegations.
Welcome to the silly season folks.
I’m not sure many people noticed recently but Arsenal loanee Kyle Bartley, spending the season with Rangers, was recently the target of some vile racial abuse via Twitter on Sunday. This wasn’t the first time this has happened to Bartley as I remember seeing some disgusting Tweets being sent his way a few months back. The good news is that an 18 year old has been arrested by Strathclyde Police. It amazes me the pure stupidity of people who think that they can abuse without consequence and say things via the internet that they wouldn’t dare say in ‘real life’ because they believe they are cloaked by some sort of invisibility shield. You aren’t. You WILL be caught.
That’s about all I could find this morning, I’ve a lot of work on at the minute, but rest assured, I’m working on a number of pieces which will hopefully keep you occupied when the season finally comes to a close. Daily blogging will continue right throughout the summer. If you missed it yesterday, check out the latest post by @RockTheCasbah77 here.
