So. Chelsea losing last night now means that we are guaranteed to finish above Chelsea for the first time since 2003/04. I couldn’t believe it had been so long when I first saw that fact last night on Twitter. What it also means is that we are guaranteed European football next season, what channel that is on is up to us. Please stop telling me that if Chelsea win the Champions League and we finish fourth blah blah blah I KNOW!
Yossi, who the majority of Arsenal fans seem to want to stay and sign a permanent deal after what has been a very productive loan spell (it speaks volumes that any Chelsea fan I’ve spoken to wants him back) has been speaking about the only thing that matters to him at the minute is Arsenal finishing third.
Since I came to Arsenal I have always been committed to one club until the last game of the season. The only thing I want is for Arsenal to finish in third place, I don’t care about anything else. When I finish I will have to decide about my future. I am supposed to go back to Chelsea first and then we will see what the future holds.
I finish here in a good way. In the last few months I have been more involved. Of course you want to play and you want to enjoy it and I think I have played a big part in the last few games.
You always remember the end and I am happy with my performances in the last few months. I haven’t scored many this season, I think it was my fifth goal, but it was one of my best. Normally I like to pass to other players and it was a good finish. But after that I thought we would go on and win the game. Normally when you score you think it is the right day for you but we did not play well enough after this
Meanwhile Per, our very own BFG, has been talking about how he is now feeling settled after what was a ‘tough’ start to his Arsenal career.
Sometimes I felt like it was very hard, especially when I first came here,” he told Arsenal’s official website. “It was tough to settle down [and I was] very quickly into the first-team squad. There was sometimes a lack of performance but I think you have to go through that to improve yourself. I am very comfortable here now, and very proud to be with this club.
In general you are playing the best players in the world. You always have to perform at a high level. It is at a constant level and that is what makes the Premier League so good and so sharp.
I don’t understand the people who have been talking about selling Per, I really don’t. He offers a calmness to our back line and offers a fantastic option to have on the bench. People bemoaning the fact that Sp*rs look likely to sign Vertonghen ahead of Arsenal and United don’t seem to realise that if Arsenal or United were in for Vertonghen it’s very unlikely he’d choose to go to Sp*rs and there is a limit to how many players you can have for one position, you can’t just go around collecting players as if they were football stickers, the 25-man squad limits see to that and we have Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Djourou, Miquel, and Song who can fill in back there not to mention a few others coming through as well.
In what seems a centreback packed day, Kos has also been talking, saying
I think I am definitely better than last year. I know this league and its players and am accustomed to the physical challenges. The first year was a learning experience for me. For me this is the best league in the world and you face strikers of many different qualities, so you need to be able to stop them. The games are intensive, everyone plays to score and to win, it’s different from the French league all round. I’ve learned a lot, as I say, and this season I’ve felt better. I am more confident and when you feel good – both on and off the pitch – you can give more for the team.
He’s another that people were all too quick to write off after his first season and now he is seen as one of our most consistent and best players, it’s like if you aren’t absolutely freaking amazing from the minute you step out on the pitch people think you’re crap no matter where you’ve come for or what adapting you have to do. It makes me sad. Yes, in an ideal world that’s how it would be, but we don’t live in one.
