Robin Roundup

It’s just the story that will not die. We thought we could be in for a summer free of this sort of nonsense, after all, for the first time in living memory Barcelona had shut the hell up.  Then van Persie issued his statement and the world went mental.  So, as of today, what exactly do we know?  What is fact and what is fiction and what is speculation?

Fact:

  • Robin van Persie has said he will not sign a new deal with Arsenal.
  • Arsenal want him to re-sign and wish to keep him for the final year of his contract.
  • Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus have submitted bids for the player.
  • Arsenal have rejected all bids for van Persie
  • Van Persie will not be travelling to Asia with the rest of the team on the pre-season tour.

Fiction:

  • While there has been much speculation there have been no out and out lies regarding this story, at least not that I’ve come across.

Speculation:

  • Van Persie will not leave for another English team.  His father made this statement but van Persie himself has neither confirmed nor denied it.
  • Arsenal believe they can get him to re-sign with the club although no sources have confirmed this.
  • Van Persie is refusing to go on tour in order to force a transfer.

The entire thing is a mess and it is mostly all Robin’s fault.  He didn’t have to open his mouth, he could have done this quietly but he wanted to play his hand in a way that would leave Arsenal with little choice.  His position at Arsenal is now beyond untenable.  It is a transfer being played out in the press that didn’t have to be and Arsenal are left trying to find an option that suits them more than it suits their rivals.

This needs to be rectified sooner rather than later. While the signing of both Podolski and Giroud early on means that we are not in the same sort of perilous situation that we found ourselves in last summer, the longer this drags on the worse it is for our chances of bringing in any reinforcements if that’s what’s needed.

I’ve seen many criticise the board, demanding to know why van Persie was allowed to get to the last year of his contract but people need to remember that only 12 months ago van Persie had been unable to complete a full season.  Recently when Diaby was handed a new deal people screamed that the club were mental for handing a perma-croc a new deal so can you blame Arsenal for waiting to see if van Persie would ever be able to get the fitness level and consistency required to reach the heights that Arsene has always believed he was capable of?  He finally managed to do that, and instead of standing by the club that has stood by him when others would have sold him, Robin wants out.  Robin wants trophies but doesn’t seem to see the role his own injuries played in trophies not arriving at Arsenal.

I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again, I thought Robin was different, was better than this, but as he’s all smiles and giggles during pre-season training, the Arsenal fans he claims to love are left to deal with constant speculation regarding their star player once again and the club he wishes to see do well and has supported since he was a kid are being battered from all sides.

I’m sick of summer sagas but I understand Arsenal’s need to try and do what is right for the club. Not what is right for van Persie or Man City or Man United. For Arsenal.

It’s not yet fact that he’s not going to Asia as Arsenal have not announced anything. The same guy saying this also said a couple of weeks ago that RVP wanted to stay and the ball was in Arsenal’s court.

It turns out he isn’t going to asia. But i don’t think we should make too much of it. Giroud, Poldi, Koscielny and loads of other first team players aren’t traveling either also to work on their fitness. I don’t think RVP actually refused to go

“Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we’ve made a bid for him,” Fergie manager told MuTV
    “We
try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we
conclude a deal. There’s no point talking about something that might not
    happen.
“There are other clubs interested in the player. We’ve shown an interest and that’s where we’re at at the moment.”

Ferge mean “We’ve been trying not to embarrass you, now I’ll show you how a big club Man Utd is”
Wenger goes like ” Yes free publicity, the highest big win, simple logic”

In 2014 Arsenal will be out of debt, Man Utd will still be up for sales.

Go through the hard time like this together that’s what Arsenal fans off. It doesn’t only teach us a winner but a loser, and we have what it takes to bring to glory day back and we will stay there forever at THE TOP OF THE WORLD for generations.

Wenger knows what’s happening around our club, He won’t let u down, I can promise you that. Please stay strong together, the media will jump on us!

Your blog is turning into – together with arseblog – the best Arsenal blog out there, but unlike with Arseblog, there’s a point in commenting here. I like that. And I like the fact that all I read here is sensible.

Thanks for that, really appreciate that :)

Great article, Leanne. I don’t know what to believe any more. I, like you, thought RvP would be different. I’m caught between hoping & wanting him to stay, and not giving two bleeps about it because we need to look ahead and not be dragged along through the summer. When I think about this, I’m suffering inside. :|

i only realised it was summer the other day when we were plunged yet again in to our summer crisis. what a mess! the sooner van persie goes the better for all concerned. if he had a shred of dignity he would understand why we don’t want to let him go to a club in this country.

I really donlt want to keep him. He cocked snoots at a team that had supported him and he didn’t have to.

I know i will get slated for this, but I am more worried about Song leaving than Van Persie. Get the boy a new contract!!!

Watch this all you Song haters. It astonishes me how people can still doubt him after the last couple of seasons.

other than taking a dig at Gazidis he’s been professional, it was obvious that he was going to leave, as Grimandi said they bought Podolski and Giroud because they could see this scenario. The club tried to negotiate with him a year ago but he wouldn’t sit down. Fact is, he played out of his skin because in his mind he was in the shop window.

    Reason being …

He’s wasted at Arsenal, the players around him are not near the level of City or United. He wants to achieve his full potential as a sportsman and he can’t do that at Arsenal. Deal with it, the club has no good players on the level of Silva, Valencia, Aguero, Rooney, Yaya, Scholes, Tevez, Kagawa etc, etc … nevermind Kompany and Vidic, and how strong City and United are mentally, they never collapse the way Arsenal have time and again over the years.
