Robin van Persie’s full Arsenal injury record

I posted this earlier as part of the blog I wrote posing the question ‘Is Robin van Persie worth £10m per year‘ and people seemed to be more interested in the injury list which was included at the bottom so I thought it perhaps deserved a post on its own with some extra information. We are, of course, all aware that Robin missed large parts of his Arsenal career through injury, but just how many injuries did he have?  Let’s look at this below, and below the text you will find the table which lists all of his injuries.

I really can’t wait for the season to start so that we can talk about something else.

Robin van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004 for a fee of £2.75m. Feyenoord originally wanted £5m but, well, Wenger did his thing. Since then he has played a total of 278 games for Arsenal (211 starts and 67 substitute appearances), an average of 26 starts per season.

2004-05: Debut season cut short by and ankle injury in February after also spending time out with two sprained ankles (not at the same time).

2005-06: Suffered a knee injury, and two more ankle injuries. Arsenal fans are starting to realise why the Dutch fans refer to him as ‘glass ankles.’

2006-07: Just to mix things up a bit Robin suffered a hip injury followed by a metatarsal fracture then another knee injury before suffering a thigh muscle strain.

2007-08: Managed to make it January before injury set in and then suffered three thigh muscle strains in quick succession.

2008-09: An ankle injury started the season off followed by a hamstring injury and a couple of groin strains to end the season.

2009-10: A knee injury arrived in September followed by a sprained ankle. This was the season he tried to use horse placenta to cure what turned out to be torn ligaments and missed five months of the campaign only to return in April to feature in the last few games.

2010-11: Another early ankle injury suffered in August kept him out until November.  He caught flu in February as well as pulling a hamstring and then injuring his knee.

2011-2012: Robin’s most injury-free season since he signed for Arsenal, he picked up the obligatory ankle injury in August then had an injury free run until he picked up a little groin strain in February.

He’s been fit ever since which is remarkable.  Robin’s full injury record below courtesy of Physio Room:

      He owes you nothing. If he wouldn’t have been as talented as he is, Arsenal would have got rid of him a lot earlier. It was in their best interest to stick with him. And they were right to do so. Last year showed that. In his injury years he still played 230 games, scored 95 goals. It strikes me as odd that no one feels sorry for Robin having to go through so many injuries. They only feel sorry for Arsenal. And even wish him worse to happen. Strange.

    Not of mine, yours or anybody else’s money. He should show the club some loyalty following one good season. Not being funny, but he is bleating about the lack of silverware, but how could he have said that he honestly earn’t it in the past. Put in three good seasons on the trot and then bleat if you haven’t won anything!!! Not only have we stood by him with his injury woes but also with his arrest abroad. A short memory on the back of one good season he has I think.
    Lady Arse, you haven’t got the time out to go alongside each injury have you?

    Anyone would think that you were trying to justify the club’s decision not to improve the squad sufficiently enough to enable us to compete, which is really what RVP wants!! Bet you weren’t questioning his worth last season!!

      what were you saying when we were paying him 90k a week but had not completed one full season? – the same people saying get rid then are the same saying all Robin wants is improvements. Always taking sides with players putting the boot into the club by leaving against the clubs will

      get behind the team instead of deserters!

      He can go do one as far as im concerned – what he thinks he is bigger than the club?

      Sorry Theopanting substandard but anyone who isn’t circling Venus knows that he wants to pad his nest before he’s crocked again and the best way is to go to a big paying Club. He, unlike you, hasn’t had his head up his ass over the last few seasons and knows that the sterling is greener over Manchester or Juve way. He’s 29, has been crocked more than 50% of the time at AFC and if he doesn’t realise by now that Wenger is really improving the team then he’s been out there with you circling Venus!

    With Arsenal finishing third last season, I do know he brought Arsenal more money than £10m. And yes, if you look at the quality he brings, he is worth £10m a year. In the wage structure football has these days. I have hardly seen a player being more valuable to his team than Robin van Persie last year. It was immense. This injury list can’t deny that, I’m afraid.

      Not denying what he did for us last year, but I want him to stay with us and to prove that he can now do it again and again year in year out. You cannot deny with another couple of signings (or maybe even without) we are now starting to look like we can do some damage this year if we keep him. I just wish he could see that.

        To be honest, I didn’t really expect him to leave. I still feel he loves Arsenal and his family likes to be in London. I do believe it is not about money. Arsenal would have increased his wages anyway. At some point, I don’t think having £7m or £9m a year is essential for him. I just think, at his age, it is probably the last chance for him to move. At the age of 30 he would be ‘condemned’ to Arsenal for the rest of his career. He can’t be sure he’ll be able to have another season like last season and even then it didn’t bring Arsenal any further than 3rd place. Giroud was bought to replace Van Persie, not to join him. The only addition to the team is Podolski. He isn’t really worldclass either. I just think RVP is not convinced Arsenal are good enough to be title contenders in the short term (before his career is over). That’s my guess. And then, let’s face it, the last years of Dennis Bergkamp with Arsenal, Dennis was benched many times by Arsene Wenger, he didn’t even get to play a single minute in a CL final and apparently he wasn’t Arsenal legend enough to have his statue. And Robin isn’t even as good as Dennis was.

    nice to see artical at bottom of list!! but we all know that rvp is due a injurey so good luck to him,but whats more alarming to me is we sell rvp 24,,vela 3,, song 15?,,we have bought 38 mill -42mill we have only spent 4 mill again even less than last 4/5 years wheres all the dosh we deserve some more expence dont we??
