  • Casillas to Arsenal rumour spreads despite being total nonsense
When perusing the Spanish press I was very surprised to see a report in Marca which was linking Arsenal with a move for Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Iker Casillas. My surprise didn’t last long when I saw that they were quoting as their source Fanatix, that site which has a reputation for being even less reliable [...]
  • Arsenal and Manchester United interest in Lampard not going away
When the rumour first surfaced a few weeks ago that Arsenal were interested in signing Frank Lampard it seemed like some sort of weird joke to which I couldn’t see the punchline but now the Daily Mail [I know, I know] are hammering home the point that not only Arsenal but Manchester United are interested [...]
  • Wilshere – We all want a trophy
As Arsenal look forward to an FA Cup replay against Swansea after drawing 2-2 at the Liberty Stadium yesterday, Jack Wilshere has been speaking to the London Evening Standard about what winning a trophy would mean to Arsenal. It is interesting to note that he says ‘in the next couple of years’ showing that the [...]
  • Arsenal target agrees terms with Fenerbahce
Le10Sport are today reporting that Younes Belhanda, long linked with a move to Arsenal, has agreed terms with Turkish side Fenerbahce . The player, who was reported to be on Arsenal’s wishlist during the summer before Montpellier wanted some stupidly high transfer fee, was also wanted by Manchester City if reports were to be believed. [...]
  • Wenger looking for ‘one or two players’
Keeping up with what Arsene Wenger wants when it comes to the transfer window is getting impossible, more so in this window than it has been in any other in my mind anyway. He has hinted we will strengthen then said the opposite, highlighted the importance of renewing the deals of current players and then [...]
  • Star in Arsenal Butland link
According to the Daily Star Arsenal have ‘revived’ their interested in Birmingham’s Jack Butland with the club being said to be ‘braced’ for a bid from Arsenal. It seems that not one week goes by without Arsenal being linked with a move for a keeper, not surprising really when you think that Fabianski is injured [...]
  • Arsenal linked with Napoli forward in Twitter hoax
[See update at bottom] According to the Italian site RaiSport Arsenal are interested in signing Napoli forward Edu Vargas, a player who has been linked with a move to Sao Paulo. The Chilean footballer, who has been with Napoli since January 2012 and who arrived there for a fee reported to be around £11.5m, was [...]

I can’t believe we didn’t try harder to get Demba Ba. Arsene says he didn’t like the reports about his dodgy knee and so opted out of the chase (or so I read). I’d have gone to at least 12 Mil for Ba. Even if I knew I was going to be eventually out-bid by Chelski I’d have pushed them all the way just for the hell of it. Now I’m now reading that we are interested in David Villa from Barca who are asking 10 Mil+ for him – at 31 and with an even dodgier knee! 3 or 4 Mil for him in the Summer would still be too much for him…..and too late. I’d be more up for Yan M’Vila, despite his bad boy image. A holding midfielder to ease the load on Mikel Arteta is what we need.

Arsenal cannot seriously consider winning a trophy this season before two things happen, (1) Arsenal strengthen the squad with game changers and (2) Arsenal reaching the semi-finals.

This current squad is very inconsistent and reflects Wenger’s panicky state on the touch lines. One thing Wenger never learnt was the art of closing out a game and protecting a lead and Steve Bould appears to have forgotten.
